UX Architecture Report — Expo Negocios Digitales Venezuela 2026

Agent 4: UX/UI Research & Architecture Designer

Date: 2026-03-20

Status: COMPLETE

Executive Summary

This document defines the complete information architecture and UX design system for:

1. The Expo Negocios Digitales Venezuela 2026 Mobile App (iOS + Android)

2. The 7-page marketing website

Research covered Web Summit, Grip Events, Brella, Whova, Swapcard, Hopin/RingCentral Events, Bizzabo, vFairs, and EventMobi. Key design decisions are shaped by Venezuela-specific constraints: intermittent internet, dollar economy, high mobile usage, and WhatsApp as the primary communication channel.

Top Praised Features Across All Apps

1. Personalized agenda / session bookmarking (every app, top complaint when missing)

2. Attendee profiles with enough detail to qualify connections before reaching out

3. One-tap meeting requests directly from profiles

4. Push notifications for schedule changes and session reminders

5. Post-event access to slides, recordings, and contacts

Top Complaints Across All Apps

1. Notifications arriving late or not at all

2. Forced registration before browsing (kills early adoption)

3. Poor offline behavior — app breaks without connectivity

4. Accessibility failures (no zoom, small text, low contrast)

5. QR scanning that requires internet connection to validate

6. Matchmaking suggestions that feel random rather than relevant

7. Profile editing locked on mobile (desktop-only)

8. Floor maps that are static images, not interactive

Critical Gap in the Market

No major event app is designed for Latin American infrastructure realities. Every competitor assumes reliable 4G/5G, Stripe-compatible payments, and English-first UX. Our app wins by being the only one built offline-first for the Venezuelan market while matching the feature depth of Whova and the matchmaking sophistication of Grip.

2. Top UX Patterns to Adopt

Pattern 1: Progressive Profile Building

Source: Brella, Swapcard

Principle: Collect only name + email at registration. Build the rest of the profile in context — ask for interests while browsing the schedule, ask for company info when claiming an exhibitor pass.

Application: Our onboarding must be completable in under 90 seconds. Additional profile data is collected progressively through in-app prompts tied to actions.

Pattern 2: "Today View" as Home Screen

Source: Web Summit, Whova

Principle: The home screen is not a dashboard of features — it is "what is happening RIGHT NOW and what should I do next." Time-sensitive content drives retention.

Application: Home screen shows: Live Now → Up Next → My Schedule for Today → Passport Progress. Not a menu of features.

Pattern 3: Connection Before Conversation

Source: Grip, Brella

Principle: The highest-quality meetings are pre-scheduled, not spontaneous hallway conversations. The app must make scheduling feel inevitable, not awkward.

Application: Every exhibitor profile and every attendee profile has a prominent "Request Meeting" button that immediately shows available time slots.

Pattern 4: Gamification as Navigation

Source: EventMobi, vFairs

Principle: Gamification challenges guide attendees to exhibits and sessions they would have missed. It is not just engagement — it is wayfinding.

Application: Digital Passport stamps are the primary navigation system for the Expo floor. The stamp collection IS the exhibitor directory.

Pattern 5: Offline-First Data Architecture

Source: Grip (partial implementation)

Principle: All critical content (schedule, exhibitor list, maps, passport stamps) must be cached locally on first app open. QR scanning must work without server round-trips.

Application: Full schedule and exhibitor data synced on app open. QR validation uses local cryptographic verification. Only meeting requests and chat require active connectivity.

Pattern 6: Social Proof Integrated Into the UX

Source: None of the competitors do this well — this is our differentiator

Principle: Every screen should show some form of social proof: "47 people are attending this session," "This exhibitor has been visited by 312 attendees today," "12 people have your same interests."

Application: Embed live counters throughout the app. Leaderboard for passport completion. "Trending exhibitors" section on home screen.

Pattern 7: WhatsApp as the Primary Share Layer

Source: Latin American market behavior — not copied from any competitor

Principle: Every connection, every meeting confirmation, every QR stamp should have a "Share on WhatsApp" option. This drives organic word-of-mouth that no push notification can replicate.

Application: WhatsApp share buttons on: profile QR codes, passport milestone badges, session bookmarks, and meeting confirmations.

8. Venezuela UX Considerations

8.1 Connectivity Constraints

The Reality: Venezuelan internet averages 5–15 Mbps (vs. 100+ Mbps in comparable events' home countries). Event venues may have concentrated demand on a single ISP. Power outages and network drops occur without warning.

Design Responses:

ProblemSolution
|---------|----------|

App breaks offlineOffline-first architecture: entire schedule, exhibitor list, map, and passport stamps cached locally on first launch
QR scanning fails without serverCryptographic offline QR validation — signed QR codes validated locally, synced to server when reconnected
Live stream buffers constantly5 quality tiers in the player (Auto / 720p / 480p / 360p / 240p). 240p = 250kbps, usable on 2G
Profile photos slow to loadProgressive image loading; compress all profile photos server-side to max 60KB
Chat fails without connectivityQueue messages locally; send when connected. Show "pending" state honestly
Exhibitor profiles fail to loadCache exhibitor data during onboarding or Wi-Fi sync; serve from cache first

Offline-first data priority (what to cache first):

1. Full schedule and agenda (smallest file size, highest usage)

2. Exhibitor list and profiles (medium size — compress images)

3. Interactive map (SVG-based, not raster images — tiny file size)

4. My schedule and bookmarks (local only, synced to cloud)

5. Passport stamps (local transaction, signed and timestamped, syncs when online)

6. Networking suggestions (cached batch, refreshed when online)

8.2 Payment Processing Constraints

The Reality: Stripe is not available in Venezuela. PayPal has significant restrictions. The economy is primarily USD-based with Zelle, Pago Móvil (BSF/VES), bank transfer, and cash/crypto as common payment methods.

Recommended Payment Architecture for Website:

MethodUse CaseProvider
|--------|----------|----------|

Tarjeta internacional (Visa/MC)International buyers, diasporaStripe or Adyen via US entity
ZelleVenezuelan locals with US bankManual verification via webhook + admin panel
Pago MóvilVenezuelan locals (VES)Integration with Banesco, Mercantil API
PayPalInternational buyersPayPal API (standard)
Transferencia bancaria (USD)High-value exhibitor/sponsor paymentsManual with confirmation email
Crypto (USDT/BTC)International + tech-savvy localsNOWPayments or CoinGate integration

UX for payment pages:

8.3 WhatsApp-First Communication

The Reality: In Venezuela, WhatsApp is used for everything: business deals, customer service, confirmations, invoices, event coordination. Email open rates are significantly lower. WhatsApp message open rates exceed 90%.

Design Responses:

TouchpointStandard ApproachVenezuela-First Approach
|------------|-------------------|-------------------------|

Lead follow-upEmail sequenceWhatsApp message within 2 hours of form submission
Ticket confirmationEmail with PDFWhatsApp message with ticket image + PDF link
Meeting confirmationIn-app notificationAlso send WhatsApp confirmation
Event remindersPush notificationPush + WhatsApp broadcast (community)
Sponsor/exhibitor contractsDocusign emailWhatsApp link + explanation
Press accreditationEmail replyWhatsApp confirmation

App integration: Every "share" action in the app defaults to WhatsApp (not generic system share sheet, though both are available). WhatsApp Business API integration for automated confirmations.

8.4 Device Distribution

The Reality: Android dominates the Venezuelan market (~85–90% Android, 10–15% iOS). Many users have mid-range or budget Android devices (2–3 GB RAM, older chipsets).

Design Responses:

8.5 Font Size and Accessibility

Context: Swapcard's top complaint from a Spanish-speaking user was the inability to zoom. This is a meaningful signal.

Design Responses:

8.6 Hardware Considerations

QR Scanning: App must use native camera API for QR scanning — no dependency on device-specific QR hardware. Minimum camera spec for reliable scanning: 8MP auto-focus (covered by every Android 8.0+ device).

Badge Printing at Entry: Plan for thermal badge printers (Zebra ZD420 or equivalent). Import 90 days in advance. Plan for 2 backup printers. Printer failure is the #1 point-of-entry bottleneck at events this size.

Wi-Fi at Venue: Negotiate with CC Líder for dedicated event Wi-Fi infrastructure separate from their retail tenant network. Plan for minimum 1 Gbps uplink during streaming sessions. Provide QR code for attendees to connect to event Wi-Fi on arrival.

9. MVP Feature Prioritization

Given the honest assessment in docs/context/HONEST_ASSESSMENT.md and the 6.5-month timeline, the following prioritization applies:

App v1 (Launch by September 1, 2026 — 31 days before event)

Must Ship:

Ship if timeline allows (v1.1, two weeks before event):

Defer to 2027:

Website v1 (Launch by April 18, 2026 — per critical timeline)

Must ship (all 7 pages, but with placeholder content):

11. Key Decisions Made in This Document

IDDecisionRationale
|----|----------|-----------|

UX-0015-tab bottom navigation (not hamburger menu)Bottom navigation is the mobile standard; hamburger menus hide critical features
UX-002FAB for QR scanner (always visible)QR scanning is the most critical action during the event; must be one tap away always
UX-003Offline-first architecture requiredVenezuela connectivity cannot be assumed; the app must work without internet
UX-004Progressive profile building (not full onboarding before entering)Every additional required field at registration reduces completion by 10–20%
UX-005WhatsApp as primary share mechanism (not generic system share)90%+ of Venezuelan users will share to WhatsApp; optimize for this, not Instagram or email
UX-006Digital Passport as navigation tool (not just gamification add-on)Stamps drive floor traffic; gamification without navigation purpose is decoration
UX-007Leaderboard with current user pinned at bottomEven rank #2,000 wants to see themselves; hiding non-top-100 users kills engagement
